Movie Review

I thoroughly enjoyed Chappie. Chappie is a funny, entertaining, and surprisingly sentimental movie about a sentient robot being raised by gangsters in Johannesburg. Most of the criticisms I've seen about one- dimensional characters and illogical character choices are valid, but Chappie's character, the CGI, the humor, and the overall aesthetic of the movie more than make up for these shortcomings.

Please go see this movie and make up your own mind. I'm very excited to see this movie again. You leave this movie feeling like you've become friends with Chappie, and I hope the bad reviews don't prevent the sequels from being made.

If you like Neill Blomkamp's directing and style you will love this movie.

Movie Review

Excellent performances, a truly poignant story. See it, you won't be disappointed.

Director Lee Toland Krieger wisely speeds through the scientific mumbo-jumbo, treating it as the least-interesting aspect of this tale. Instead, he focuses on the relationship fallout of Adaline's predicament. It's a disarmingly affecting film, and very sad at points. A rumination on loneliness. Cinematically, Krieger serves up numerous arching, overhead shots and slow-motion sequences. This coupled with the various time periods tackled gives the picture a buoyant sense of scope.

Particularly memorable in this is Harrison Ford. After stiff and stagey efforts in movies such as "42," Ford delivers a beautifully conflicted performance as a man trying to reconcile his past.

Highly recommended.

Movie Review

After PITCH PERFECT became a box office and critical success, a sequel was announced for a May 15, 2015 release and so now, I review the sequel PITCH PERFECT 2.

The story sees the Barden Bellas being suspended from performing and a new team taking their place. However, they are able to perform again if they win a new Acapella contest, in which, no American team has ever won because the team that they are performing against hates America.

I love the story to this film. Such a great concept and well-written and it is well directed by Elizabeth Banks and she is amazing and does a cool and fantastic job at taking a film like this and making it better than the original Pitch Perfect film.

The acting is once again amazing and I think the actresses and actors did a good job with their characters once again. Anna Kendrick once again plays the role of Beca and she does a great job. Rebel Wilson plays Fat Amy / Patricia and she is funny now as she was in the first Pitch Perfect.

The rest of the supporting cats including Skylar Astin, Anna Camp, John Michael Higgins, Brittany Snow and Elizabeth Banks, who also directed this, are also amazing and fantastic in their perfect and it is just incredible.

The songs are catchy as they were in the previous film and I actually read on-line that they were going to do a third Pitch Perfect movie and I can't wait to see where the Pitch Perfect films go next.

So, overall, PITCH PERFECT 2 is good as the first one. Universal Studios and the entire cast and crew of PP1 and PP2 did a great job with bringing something fresh to this movie and that is one heck of an achievement.

08/10.

Went with high expectations just from seeing the trailer. And I can say I was not disappointed at all. The storyline was great the effects of the movie was AWESOME. I saw it in 3D and jumped a few times in the movie it kept me on the edge of my seat. I was extremely impressed in the acting and the sets of the movie. It doesn't matter if the science is shaky. We all go to the movie to enjoy them not to be picking it apart over science. I can see this actually happening sometime in the future. The only problem I had was with the tidal wave was that it would have crossed the ocean more than flood the city.Other then that it was a really good movie.

Movie Review

There are films which are not suitable for all age groups and The DUFF is one perfect example.

The base is set about a clumsy teen (Whitman) who thinks she is lucky to have two hotties (Santos & Samuels) as her friends in college. When she comes to know, from a good friend (Amell), that she is, in fact, designated an ugly and fat friend (abbrev. DUFF) of the group, she begins introspecting and changing her ways.

You will detect how the story is outlined and if you are smart, chances are that you will see where and how the story is going to that cliché reservoir where all such films (read teen comedies) go. The preachy topic of being yourself when it comes to bullies at college, especially at this age of viral videos, is expressive, mostly because it is said with a tinge of humor.

Although, one will understand that the plot keeps its distance from the reality, where in the school the teachers are the weirder ones. The soundtrack is complementing and so is the colorful setup. All said and done, the highly predictive climax just makes the whole film look like it dug its own grave with its own teeth.

BOTTOM LINE: The DUFF is an effortless affair with doses of good comedy that will crack you up, even if you are not between 12 and 18 years of age, the group to whom it is actually intended.

VERDICT: Below Average.

Movie Review

Greetings again from the darkness. "For Paul". A touching tribute to the late Paul Walker provides an emotional end to the most high-octane (sorry about that) F&F episode yet … and the perfect victory lap (sorry again) for the franchise. Of course, we know that it won't be the last, if for no other reason than easy box office money.

The franchise began in 2001, and the familiar faces are back: Vin Diesel as Dom, Paul Walker as Brian, Jordana Brewster as Brian's wife Mia, Michelle Rodriguez as amnesiac Letty, Tyrese Gibson and Chris "Ludicrous" Bridges as comic relief Roman and Tej, respectively, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Agent Hobbs. New to the scene are Djimon Honsou as a terrorist, Ronda Rousey and Tony Jaa as elite henchmen (henchpersons?), Nathalie Emmanuel as super-hacker Ramsey, and Kurt Russell as the shadowy government-type cutting shady deals for fuzzy reasons. The biggest add is of course, Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, the Black Ops big brother to Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) – silenced villain from the previous film (in which Statham made a brief appearance foreshadowing this story line).

Achieving remarkable success for what started as a fun little street racing cult film, this series thrives on its familiar characters, simple plot lines, staggering lineup of dream cars, and ever-louder and larger stunts, fights and set pieces. One of the earliest scenes features a fight scene that would be the climax of most action movies: The Rock vs Jason Statham. Rather than end or solve anything, this fight merely serves as a set-up for one of the film's punchlines – involving The Rock and a plaster arm cast (pay no attention to that leg cast). In the middle, we get a too brief clash between Michelle Rodriguez and Ronda Rousey, but the real finale is a rooftop battle between Vin Diesel and Jason Statham that has such an extended cut-away, we almost forget they are going at each other.

In between those colossal fights, we get Paul Walker sprinting up the side of a bus that is sliding off a cliff, a wicked and armed drone, car chases galore – including one with a stealth chopper, synchronized10,000 foot car drops from an airplane, and most impressively, car jumps between the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi. That last one is not just any car, but a stunning red Lykan Hypersport … one with little resale value after its final trip.

Michelle Rodriguez' character is fighting her amnesia, Ludicrous and Tyrese play off each other like Laurel and Hardy, while Dom does his best Yoda impression, and Statham comes off like a revenge-seeking missile from a Terminator movie. Every character gets their fair share of posing, preening, strutting and smirking. It would be an insult to call this over-the-top because that would imply we have previously seen the top. This is high-speed, high-altitude mayhem that plays directly to a large fan base.

Personally, I'm not a devout F&F follower, and have seen only the first entry prior to this latest. My attendance for Furious 7 was driven (get it?) by my interest in seeing the tribute to Walker, and my personal code of seeing every Kurt Russell movie (don't ask). However, I do understand the mass appeal, and I believe the followers will appreciate the approach of director James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring), who replaces 3 time series director Justin Lin.

Movie Review

I grew up with Pixar and have seen all their movies up to Toy Story 3 (which I loved), but their last few didn't appeal to me. After growing used to the original and endlessly creative ideas it churned out, its recent (and upcoming) reliance on sequels had me worried it was done making the level of quality it had started with. This movie quelled those fears.

Inside Out isn't the funniest thing Pixar has made, but it doesn't try to be. It's more focused on making you feel, and think as well. That isn't to say there aren't some good laughs in it, but there's some space between them. In that space are ideas so clever about how our brains work that it's hard to keep from smiling. The story is compelling, the voice cast is great, and the vast majority of jokes land.

It does drag a little around the 2/3 mark, which is the main reason why this movie lost a point or two, but if you're a parent this could probably be a 9 or a 10 for you pretty easily (If your kids are super young, though, you might not want to bring them to this. Many in my theater seemed bored).

This is worth paying to see, especially if you've been waiting for Pixar to get back on top of its game. 8/10

P.S: The accompanying short is about singing volcanoes. It really (really) isn't good, but don't tell me you don't want to see how bizarre that could be.

Movie Review

Hilarious, that's the only way I can describe Spy. It was so refreshing to finally see a movie that gave me some great belly laughs and was super fun to watch. From the beginning to the very end I felt like I wasn't just "watching" the movie but it felt like I was riding along on the adventure. The chemistry of the cast was perfect and I hated it when the movie finally ended. Luckily, they actually set it up for a sequel which I hope comes relatively quick since great comedies are hard to come by lately.

If you're going to let your kids watch the film just be warned that Melissa McCarthy uses some pretty colorful language from time-to-time but it really isn't anything kids don't hear at school and among their friends I am sure. Jason Statham was a pretty intense and funny field operative and I can honestly say that his character really added the perfect balance to the overall story. As far as Jude Law is concerned, I have only two words, "James Bond". Jude could be the next Bond one day, he played a really self obsessed spy that was oblivious to the obvious yet in-tune with his spy skills. Overall, this movie was a blast and I would highly recommend it to anyone that want a great comedy.
